PSYCKES:
The Psychiatric Services and Clinical Knowledge Enhancement System (PSYCKES) is an award-winning, HIPAA-compliant computer application developed by the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH). PSYCKES makes available administrative data to support clinical decision making and quality improvement activities. Originally developed for use in state psychiatric hospitals, where it supported significant improvement in medication practices, PSYCKES has been adapted for community settings and is currently implemented in over 300 mental health clinics statewide. The current version of PSYCKES uses Medicaid claims data to generate reports profiling performance at the state, region, county, agency, program, and prescriber levels, and provides treatment histories of consumers whose medication regimens are flagged by quality indicators. The CPI supports this project by facilitating training in the use of PSYCKES for staff in participating agencies in New York State as well as in the development of performance measures for psychotropic prescribing practices.
